Jonathan Weiss - Flute

Jonathan Weiss was born in New York. He studied with Boaz Meirovitch and Yossi Arenheim at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and is currently studying in the class of Roswitha Staege at the University of Arts in Berlin. During his studies in Jerusalem, he received excellence scholarships, prizes for solo and chamber music, and in Berlin he was a recipient of the Hindemith Society scholarship as well as support from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). In the 2012-2013 season he was a member of the Israeli Symphonic Orchestra (the orchestra of the Israeli Opera House) as assistant principal flute.
On 2015-2016 he was a member of the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt, a prestigious program for new music on a stipend basis.    

As an active chamber musician, he has participated in music festivals such as Encuentro Santander (Spain), Dresden Kunstfest, Klangspuren Schwaz (Austria), Crescendo Festival in Berlin, the Workshop for Ancient Music in Jerusalem and many other music festivals, and was admitted to the Académie musicale de Villecroze in France under the guidance of flutist Jacques Zoon. He plays with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Israeli Camerata and Israeli Symphonic Orchestra. In Germany, he plays with Ensemble Modern, the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Thüringer Symphoniker, NKO Potsdam (New Chamber Orchestra Potsdam), Magdeburg Philharmonie and Jena Philharmonie. He has played in master classes with Emmanuel Pahud, Davide Formisano, Hansgeorg Schmeiser, Stephanie Winker and others.  

At the end of 2016 he was playing the last round of the flute audition to the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra (hr Sinfonieorchester).
